Features
MossAtlas looks like the social apps you already know: profiles, a square grid, round portraits and threads of replies. Underneath, every tile is a complete piece of writing that anyone can read and any search engine can find. Here is what readers and writers get.
Your profile is your atlas
Each invited writer gets a profile at /your-handle/. It is the front door to everything they publish.
Portrait, bio and a link
A cover banner, a round portrait, a short bio, an optional location and a plain link to your own website.
A square post grid
Your posts appear as a three-column grid of covers. Posts without a cover become text tiles in moss and stone, so the grid never has holes.
Categories as chapters
Sort posts into categories you name. Each category is shown as a round highlight on your profile and has its own page.
A pinned introduction
Write a short welcome with links to the posts a newcomer should read first. It stays pinned at the top of your profile.
Posts with room for the whole story
A tile is only the cover. Open it and you get a full article, laid out for reading on a phone in the rain or on a desk at home.
Cover photos and inline images
Add a cover and as many photos as the story needs. Images are hosted on the site itself.
Contents for long reads
Longer posts get a table of contents built from their headings, so readers can jump straight to the river crossing.
Tags that become topics
Tag a post and it joins a topic page with posts on the same subject from other writers.
Every language, every accent
Vietnamese and other accented text display correctly in titles, posts and replies, in a typeface chosen for it.
Following without an account
There is no follower count on MossAtlas and nothing to sign up for. Following works the open way.
A feed for every writer
The Follow button on a profile is an RSS feed at
/handle/feed.xml. Paste it into any feed reader.A feed for the whole network
Prefer to see everything? /feed.xml carries new posts from every writer.
Replies that are read first
Readers reply with a name and a message. No account, no email address. Each guest reply waits for a moderator, and replies that are never approved are deleted after 30 days. Writers’ own replies are marked so readers can spot them in the thread.
Light as a day pack
Pages are plain HTML and CSS rendered on the server. They load quickly on weak signal, work without JavaScript and fit any screen without sideways scrolling. There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking pixels and no third-party scripts, and readers get no cookies at all.
Writing here
MossAtlas is invite-only. If you write about the outdoors and want a profile, tell us about your work. Whatever you publish stays yours.
